Mrs.Pumpkin

Mrs. Pumpkin's Ridiculous Dream
Jacarandas bloomed,
On a podium for serving disrespects
Where shall we go?
A cheerfully-cried song
Jack laughed,
"Leave your heretical feelings behind!"
Give me chocolate, please;
A humbly-wept song
The scarecrow wandered,
Smothered and shaking,
Knocking without trying,
Hating pumpkin pie
Hey!
La lu la lu la,
Wanna dance with me?
While the great moon sleeps still...
"You called? You called?" says the turnip-head
Look!
The coffins have vanished, to who knows where!
Oh, what a bore!
A transmission tower
Accustomed to the make-believe magic,
And a witch under the porch
Seeming somewhat dazed
Jack was smug;
"Take your obscene feelings along!"
Mandragoras bloomed,
And seemed somewhat bitter
"Take it... Take it..." **
A goat is plotting something...
As he waits for the train...
Take my hand,
For two shall be allowed
Within the twisting tubes...
"Better or worses, what's it to corpses?"
Among swarms of ants buying and selling,
The great moon sleeps still...
"Ah, Mrs. Pumpkin!
I've arrived to pick you up!"
When precisely in the night
Did dreams come crumbling down?
Not yet! Still!
Still I wish to dance here,
To cause such dreamlike confusion!
"Inferior, inferior, a gathering of fools!"
Bursting with pleasure, I lit my light,
And my lantern...
Hey!
La lu la lu la,
Wanna dance with me?
Though I don't expect an answer...
"Too bad! What a shame!" said the turnip-head
Look!
The coffins have vanished, to who knows where!
Oh, what a bore!
Sunken into the mud,
Waiting for morning in a bush...
Sitting in a train...
Ah, Mrs. Pumpkin...
Ah, Mrs. Pumpkin...
* Hachi has made it clear he was inspired by Dali's prints, Pantagruel's Comical Dreams, and they have the same Japanese name. So the title should technically be "Comical." Of course, the original name was French anyway... What? Um, it's Halloween, I guess. Look, MikuWiki hasn't come up with anything for me to steal. And what do I know? (Answer: See below.) Hachi asked on his Twitter before the song came out if there was a period after "Ms." in English, but then he changed it to Mrs. So he decided to make her be married. Listener consensus seems to be she's married to Jack, and the "meeting" part is between them - one Nico video has male and female singers that sing those appropriate parts. (They also did that for a bunch of other songs, including Hachi's others, but still.) The idea is most likely just that Mrs. Pumpkin and Jack are going around on Halloween and "dancing" with normal things to make them into bizarre (or "ridiculous," rather) things, and when told that Halloween is ending, she refuses to stop. This may or may not all be a normal girl's dream. It's probably worth noting that the original lyrics (posted on his blog 9/22) make no mention of "dancing." "La lu la lu la, wanna dance with me?" was "Still in a dream?" and the "Not yet! Still!" part kind of just left out the verb, implying only "I will still cause dreamlike confusion here!" I'm guessing "Jacaranda" is intentionally similar to "Jack-o-Lantern," not to mention it apparently blooms in October. Mandragoras/Mandrakes are pretty related to witchcraft. MikuWiki: "Meaning of Mandragoras: fear, bewitching charm. Meaning of Jacarandas: prestige." Saying "Where shall we go?" cheerfully and "Give me chocolate, please" humbly sound pretty trick-or-treaty to me. "The great moon sleeps still," while a cool thing to say, might also be a clever way of saying "at the end of the month." The "witch" is probably just an old lady. The goat is a creepy old man trying to give you some weird candy you've never heard of before. Well, maybe. "Oh, what a bore!" was originally "What a bore! Out the window!" Not sure how much difference that really makes, but hey, trains. Also, the last "oh, what a bore" used a slightly different word, closer to "useless." Someone on Nico commented that when everyone on the sphere is holding hands, Jack isn't. Although sometimes it looks like he doesn't have any? I had something else here before, but I'll just leave you with this comment from MikuWiki: "Does ending in a train mean it's just a girl sleeping and dreaming? Or maybe she really is someone's wife! It's all open to interpretation! HACHI-SAN your songs are so DEEP"
** Repeatedly chanted through the following two lines.
