Terpsichore Theatric
Illuminating lights swaying down,
This is a fairytale world
Knocking my heels, dancing about,
I forgot it in your hands
A wolf with an apple in one hand,
"Are you the one who dropped it?" he asks
Supported by the swaying world,
And like dead leaves, dropped
Fallin',
Eyes gone faint, standing in shock
Amazin',
There's not a soul left in the audience
A red string tied around my pinky,
Impossible to untangle from the wiring
One line gets caught in my throat,
And I swallow it down
Become a shadow on the wall,
Become a puppet
Dance and dance,
Spit out words
Hold the pistol,
Hold the pistol,
And shoot out the world
Fallin',
So your lips won't spit it out
Amazin',
Ignoring everything, I took a kiss
Un deux ji la,
Un deux ji la,
Un deux ji la... *
Fallin',
The world sways down and away
Amazin',
"Can you remember your first line?"
Fallin',
Eyes gone faint, ready to cry
Amazin',
You're now the only audience left **
"Well, then, everyone, goodbye,"
Standing up on stage, she smiled,
And took the gun to her head.
Revealing lantern swaying down and around,
What a strange fairytale world we've prepared
Knocking my heels, dancing 'round and about,
I forgot your hands were always there
Holding an apple in his hand, said the wolf:
"Something has fallen here; might it be you?"
As the world swayed, all things it tried to support,
But like leaves from a tree, dropped on cue
Fallin',
And with my eyes gone so faint, I can but stand here in shock
Amazin',
Acting before all the crowd, only there's not a soul left
With a red string tied tight around my pinky,
It can never hope to come loose, tangled in wires
One of my lines gets caught up in my throat,
I swallow down what could prove to be dire
Act as a shadow,
Act as a puppet
Dance, dance as you see danced,
Spit out the exact words
Carry the pistol,
Carry the pistol,
And by your hand, shoot the world out
Fallin',
If only so that your lips won't spit out that which I fear
Amazin',
Ignoring all that had passed, I came to you for a kiss
Un deux ji la,
Un deux ji la,
Un deux ji la... *
Fallin',
The world as I know it sways, crumbling apart and away
Amazin',
"Don't you remember the start, giving your very first line?"
Fallin',
And with my eyes gone so faint, at this point ready to cry
Amazin',
Acting before only you, the lone crowd who still sees I
"All is said and done, so everyone; 'tis goodbye,"
Standing up on stage, she gave a smile and bowed,
And, holding the gun, she took it to her head.
* While the first two words are feasibly "un deux," suggesting something in French, it's unclear what this line was supposed to mean, if anything. People have proposed "I was the cause" or "it's just a game," but the most likely conclusion seems to be "Hachi doesn't know French." So, she gets involved in a "play" where she has to "put on an act" for the guy she loves. She knows it's just a "fairytale world," but forgets about it as "his hands" effectively control her. (The mention of hands in particular makes it hard for me to see that line any other way.) Even if she realizes it, she's stuck in it: she can't untangle the red string (general metaphor/symbol for lasting relationships) from the wiring (the mess she's made in "acting" for him). This could even mean she can't tell the difference between the two. While she only mentions one on her pinky, I imagine Hachi may have been going for an image of her as a puppet being pulled by many red strings, making her totally dependent on the one she loves but is metaphorically controlled by. Since the act seems to be to no end - the guy isn't giving anything back - there's, in her eyes, "no audience." Later she realizes that he HAS to be an audience, or else... well, the ending happens. (And since she says the only audience "left," it seems anyone else looking on doesn't matter to her anymore, or just stopped paying attention, taking away even more of the meaning she has to her life besides him.) The line that gets caught in her throat could just be "I love you," and she's afraid of rejection (which she apparently receives after just up and kissing him, and, well, see what happens then). She could be blaming herself in French either because she believes it's her fault he doesn't love her and/or because she orchestrated all the "acting" nonsense (whether she really did or not). By the way: PLAY THE UNE DUE JE LA PART BACKWARDS AND PART OF CLOCK LOCK WORKS KEEPS REPEATING WHAT THE?! "Can you remember your first line?" could imply that she isn't sure when the act really started (or it started a really, really long time ago) and how much of her life has been wasted. Alternatively, it could imply that things were different back when it started, and he figures Mikola must not remember the first thing she said to him if she's doing all this. Or, since the "your" is actually just implied, it could have been something he told her at the very start about how their relationship would go, but that doesn't fit as well if all the "acting" is the girl's idea. Someone on Nico also brought up a blurring of fantasy and reality, perhaps explaining things like the wolf and maybe even how she ended up with the pistol.
** This line is ever-so-slightly different in the lyrics on Hachi's blog. A more accurate translation that sorta covers both would be "You're now alone in the audience."
