Persona Alice (日本語)
pa 4'i ka mM dzi 4a 4o m'i 4a Ji ka
wa do 4a pM dzi 4a mM Ji 4a mi ka

Persona Alice (English)
This is a tale from a faraway world.
There lived a girl who had been cursed by a witch
to bring death to those whose face she saw.
From the day she was cursed, she lived a life of gloom all by herself.
She had not met her parents or friends in years.
Thus, there was but one person to keep her company.
Her own reflection in the water.
The surface of the water makes a looking-glass, showing a blue-eyed masked face
A sunken lighthouse faintly wavering, and a quiet voice
Since no one knows anything of me, I don't know anything of anyone
The round clock's hands strike 15 and flip upside-down
SHOUT, and is there no reply? I hear nothing
LAUGH, and I see no one coming to join me
pa 4'i ka mM dzi 4a 4o m'i 4a Ji ka (pa ri ka mu di ra ro mi ra ni ka)***
It's entirely like being in a dream,
Like the girl who chased a rabbit and fell down a hole
Ecila, Ecila, flipped-upside down
The mask on the water's surface somehow seems so sad
Blue, floating, a bell balloon
In the dozing oil-paint colors,
A cracked frog turned to stone,
And someone laughed, or so it seemed
But it isn't sad, after all,
I feel even lighter than a balloon!
That figure sewn onto the water's surface
Asks, "Is it really true?"
CRYING, all the way to the branches stuck at the bottoms
LISTENING, and from somewhere, there's the bright sound of bells
wa do 4a pM dzi 4a mM Ji 4a mi ka (wa do ra fyu di ra mu ni ra mi ka)***
It was a very busy kind of laugh,
Like the rabbit running around and constantly looking at his watch
Ecila, Ecila, who's the one crying?
The mask on the water's surface teasingly, softly whispered
"Why are you crying?"
"Because you're there."
"I shouldn't be here?"
"Yes, so disappear."
"No."
"..."
"You should come with me."
"No!"
"..."
"Please, leave us be."
You said thoughtless words
I laughed - the mask sneered
Though I didn't know a thing, though I would forget anyway,
I set foot into the dark surface of the water
The mask spoke with a voice of delight
"Hello! Hello! I've been waiting!", it called waves and laughed
A warm hand grabbed me,
The mask and I were torn apart
In the warmth, I searched for the light, but...
I saw nothing...
You said thoughtless words
I laughed - the face sneered
Though I didn't know a thing, though I would forget anyway,
I set foot into the dark surface of the water
The mask spoke with a voice of delight
"Hello! Hello! Don't you remember?"
When you came, you pulled me apart
In the warmth, I tried to search for the light, but...
I saw nothing...
"Hey... is this the base of the lighthouse?"
"Huh?"
"It's very dark... but somehow comforting."
"...Really?"
"Your eyes are..."
It was a very wonderful thing,
Like the girl waking up from the terrible trial
Ecila, Ecila is no more
Sunk to the bottom of the sea with the lighthouse, left dreaming
Distorted colors, shapes, everything
For all I had lost, I took this hand, in all its warmth
Ran row zui la ge ryu zi la***
It's completely inverted
Perhaps the image on the surface of the water...
Is just me
(Goodbye)
Perhaps she was having a long, long dream.
Or perhaps she is yet in a dream.
She let one tear upon the water,
and walked along a bewildering road.
* Click to toggle versions; the "Hello! Hello!" part is different on Bouquet and Burial at Sea. But there's no official transcription (even the lyrics booklet has the old lyrics), so it's probably not really right. Not quite analysis, but if anyone didn't realize (like I didn't for forever), either Hachi was inspired by Through the Looking Glass or that's quite a coincidence. Okay, so first, Alice might not have actually been cursed, but... yeah, she probably was. Otherwise the intro is basically just outright lying. Most of what Alice sees is imagined, though one piece of Pixiv fanart vaguely suggests that the "bell(s) on (a) balloon(s)" or "bell-shaped balloon(s)" or whatever are tears seen in the reflection. Ecila is almost certainly just a reflection, but Alice, being quite apparently not okay, believes she's real simply because she has nobody else. She could definitely stem from part of Alice's personality, which could have connections to the curse. So that would be why what appears to be their meeting is "a beautiful thing" - not only do they reunite, it might be what breaks the curse. When the boy to leave together (and leave Ecila behind), Alice grows desperate and tries to meet Ecila by, well, basically drowning herself. She's saved by the boy, but might have suffered some damage, but the curse seems undone one way or another. The state of her vision by the end isn't totally clear, although "distorted colors, shapes, everything / For all I had lost"... That said, the "distorted colors, shapes" could merely be the appearance of things in the water. Or the other way around - she's so accustomed to the way things look in reflections, she's calling reality "distorted" (see Plato's Allegory of the Cave). One of the animations on Nico seems pretty set on "is just me" at the end being shaped like a cross on a grave. I suppose that would be for Ecila, since in that line, Alice "kills" Ecila by deciding she was just her reflection.
** Excepting the line about them being separated, where the video shows the word "mask", Miku actually says "I/me/my/etc."
*** The last one is likely meant to sound like "Alice in Wonderland" (or something similar) backwards. The prior ones are probably a similar deal.
However, as it's an attempt to make forward-played syllables sound that way when reversed, they don't really sound right. Hachi used the more typical approach to reversing things for Qualia. (Oh, and the syllables in parentheses are what it is in Katakana, according to MikuWiki.)
**** CLICK FOR PRETENTIOUS! ANALYSIS
Some theories on "striking 15" from MikuWiki: "15 minutes on a clock is 3:00, and the rabbit is the third sign of the zodiac." "15 is 12 in the water's reflection." "What if it's not minutes, but hours? 15:00 is 3 PM. Tea time? With a sleepy rabbit?" "15 (hour or minute) points to 3, and when flipped, points to 9. 3 + 9 is Mi + Ku, isn't it?"
