It constrains everyone to be put into a mold, but you're uneasy if you don't fit into a mold. I think I'll be living with that dilemma for life.

Isn't being a best friend of the same gender just like sitting in the passenger seat of their life??? But saying you're "best friends" makes it categorical, so let's not use words anymore. Look at my brain. Look into my brain.

The idea that being "lovers" wasn't necessarily the closest kind of relationship shattered my preconceptions, and in Passenger Seat Road Movie, that's why Rin-chan doesn't say she wants them to be lovers, but to have to the closest of connections.

People can have totally different values regarding friends and lovers, so I don't at all believe "it has to be this way," and just find it kind of interesting to think about that stuff.

This song came about when a friend told me how making a promise to become lovers can introduce elements you don't share an understanding of that actually means you stop talking to each other, and I was like "Ohhhh, that's a way of looking at it tooooo..."

I'm super inclined to relationships like "Touching "you" let me know "my" shape for the first time"... Light-elemental yuri fan.

I really love Give This Relation A Name.

I'm listening to my own CD for the first time in a while, and they're all good songs... [Links OSTER-san's CD Vol. 2]

When you think about it like that, it might be pretty hard to find something absolutely everyone has.

"Flaws are like hometowns - everyone has them." would probably be the ultimate line to set off Vegeta, whose home planet was destroyed by Frieza.

Rin-chan actually being about to cry is adorable, but Rin-chan actually being about to hurl is pitiable.

Of course I'm super particular about sound, but I'm also super particular about lyrics, so when people take to them, I become a super happy mess.

"I'll take you back home," you told me,
So I laughed "thank you," but really, I was about to hurl (Carsick Road Movie)

A super good friend of mine listens to my OSTER songs, and when I sing "That first crotch that bloomed in secret...", they go "Close it back up!", and when I sing "If it snows tomorrow...", they sing "Get an umbrella~", and it's the best.

In want of a silver shield, we set foot into the silver mine.

I want a silver shield from YouTube, don't you?

This one too.
Understanding the Structure of Fancy Chords: OSTER Explains #5

Uploaded my half-diminished video to YouTube. Still working out the titles... lol
Understanding Half-Diminisheds (m7-5) in 2 Minutes: OSTER Explains #4

I've actually been quietly writing my achievements for the month on Fanbox, and I'm managing to juggle making the Cat and Balloons video, arranging Bubblegum K.K., and the lecture video pretty well! Good for me! I'm a can-do lady!

C-E-G is curry rice, and B is cheese.

I wonder if I should post songs from before I registered for YouTube to YouTube... I know it's awfully late for it.

Since there's getting to be more and more miscellanea like stream archives and lecture videos, I made a YouTube playlist of just my songs.
OSTER project Music

Watching my own work streams makes it feel like I actually worked.

I'm not a music theory lecturer at all, just putting together some tricks I noticed in the process of making music, so be lenient with me plz.

I truly don't understand what chords I'm using myself until I check the notes later. Don't even know the key.

I'm at least aware there are cases like "This note has this function, which is why it's more appropriate to write it this way."

When you view chords as not formulas to construct music with, but symbols to represent the sounds you imagine, you kinda end up feeling like it doesn't matter how you write it as long as the notes are correct...

But I would like to be more active on YouTube.

I don't know if I can call myself a YouTuber just because I post videos to YouTube.

Lately I've seen add9 written as add2, also... I don't know nothin' anymore.

I don't know the difference between 6 and 13 either. [...in terms of chords]

I wonder if Banksy goes "Banksy!" when he sneezes...

Basically, if you have C-E-G and play B, it's fancy. (irrational)

My latest work.

A video getting down to the truth about fancy chords in just two minutes, with super feel-based explanations.
Previous videos here. #OSTERExplains #Dominowns

Watch with English captions here! (Original Twitter video)

I don't really get music theory, but this video is me doing my best to explain what makes a fancy chord.

C-E-G: Echoes prettily. (social distancing) C-D-E-F-G: Splattt... (Keep your distance!!)

As you can tell, the more clustered notes are, the more they tend to muddle... What's even goin' on here... But in truth, fancy chords work by making these clustered notes into spice!!!! (What's that mean?! Believe it!)

You see, above "C-D-E-F-G~", it continues "C-D-E-F-G~" over and over... And putting the same notes in a different order (voicing) gives a slightly different nuance. (All of these are C chord: C3 + G3 + C4 + E4, C3 + E4 + G4 + C5, C3 + G4 + C5 + E5 + G5, C3 + E5 + G5 + C6 + E6)

Use this method to reorder dense notes like these (splat...), and... C4 + E4 + G4 + B4 + D5 + F#5 + A5 = CM9(#11,13) (Starting to see some faint fanciness???)

Most fancy-sounding chords are concealing clustered notes if you change the voicing. Underline indicates notes that are within +-2 if you change the voicing: CM9 (C-E-G-B-D), D7/F# (F#-D-F#-A-C), FM9 (F-C-F-G-A-C-E), Bb9(#11) (Bb-Bb-D-F-Ab-C-E-F)

Let's use this technique to uncover the truth of some clustered notes... If you use C-E-G as a base and keep stacking 3 notes higher... C, E, G, B (M7), D (9), F (11), A (13), C - rearrange them, and they're all side-by-side!

In particular, the notes 9 and up are called tensions. (B (9), F (11), A (13)) I often use this thing, where the 9th note, which is a tension, is made sharp or flat. (G(#9) → G(b9) → CM7)

However, like I showed at the front, these can easily become muddled, so they're like tricky-to-use condiments. B (M7) = Cheese, D (9) = Balsamic vinegar, F (11) = Wine vinegar, A (13) = Nam pla (* Just personal impressions.) Well, but basically, cheese (sevenths) can be splashed on anything, and it'll generally taste good.

This is an example of a song that doesn't use clustered notes at all. It gives a simple and frank impression, like a folk song or alma mater... (Making a song restraining my perverse powers is actually weirdly hard.)

(Arrangement 1: Cheese-Melt Festival) Let's pour on some cheese (M7 or 7). This alone greatly changes the feel. (Add too much, and you'll get a stomachache...) M7 vs. 7 is your choice each time. When it's minor, I usually prefer 7... And remember, relative to C, B = M7 and Bb = 7.

(Arrangement 2: Everything-On-Top Festival) Balsamic vinegar (9) and up: unlocked. Adding balsamic vinegar (9) on its own has a refreshing sour taste. Combining it with cheese (M7) is often delicious too.

Even outside of sevenths and tensions, you can make clusters with slash chords and all sorts of other things... Try placing notes that fill in gaps in the sound, and just see how it turns out!

Watch with English captions here! (Original Twitter video)

I don't really get music theory, but this video is me doing my best to explain what makes a fancy chord.

Do-mi-so: Echoes prettily. (social distancing) Do-re-mi-fa-so: Splattt... (Keep your distance!!)

As you can tell, the more clustered notes are, the more they tend to muddle... What's even goin' on here... But in truth, fancy chords work by making these clustered notes into spice!!!! (What's that mean?! Believe it!)

You see, above "Do-re-mi-fa-so~", it continues "Do-re-mi-fa-so~" over and over... And putting the same notes in a different order (voicing) gives a slightly different nuance. (All of these are C chord: Do-3 + So-3 + Do-4 + Mi-4, Do-3 + Mi-4 + So-4 + Do-5, Do-3 + So-4 + Do-5 + Mi-5 + So-5, Do-3 + Mi-5 + So-5 + Do-6 + Mi-6)

Use this method to reorder dense notes like these (splat...), and... Do-4 + Mi-4 + So-4 + Ti-4 + Re-5 + Fa#-5 + La-5 = CM9(#11,13) (Starting to see some faint fanciness???)

Most fancy-sounding chords are concealing clustered notes if you change the voicing. Underline indicates notes that are within +-2 if you change the voicing: CM9 (Do-Mi-So-Ti-Re), D7/F# (Fa#-Re-Fa#-La-Do), FM9 (Fa-Do-Fa-So-La-Do-Mi), Bb9(#11) (Ti♭-Ti♭-Re-Fa-La♭-Do-Mi-Fa)

Let's use this technique to uncover the truth of some clustered notes... If you use do-mi-so as a base and keep stacking 3 notes higher... Do, mi, so, ti (M7), re (9), fa (11), la (13), do - rearrange them, and they're all side-by-side!

In particular, the notes 9 and up are called tensions. (Re (9), fa (11), la (13)) I often use this thing, where the 9th note, which is a tension, is made sharp or flat. (G(#9) → G(b9) → CM7)

However, like I showed at the front, these can easily become muddled, so they're like tricky-to-use condiments. Ti (M7) = Cheese, Re (9) = Balsamic vinegar, Fa (11) = Wine vinegar, La (13) = Nam pla. Looking at people's good art, I noticed one thing that they all have in common. And I realized that understanding it for myself might help me become good at art, too.
The common point is this: Art by people who are good at art is good.

Life is riddled with bugs.

Cheese is godly.

[Photos from a new lecture video:
"A (13) = Nam pla

Finalist in the All-Japan Sleepless People Tournament

Forget that crappy saying "The nail that sticks out gets hammered in." I feel like "The kinda guy who hammers in sticking-out nails out is boring as hell" would do much more good for the world.

Ten years ago, I feared entering my thirties, but ever since I turned 30, I cling to these thirties.

I'm making a lecture video about how to make chords with a fancy sound.

Could it all be an ironic expression of the fact that people can only interpret the world through the inaccurate devices that are their own senses?? What does it mean?! What does it all mean?! Damn it all!!

If we expand the definition of "ego" to include our own perception of everything in the world, then can this use of "egosearch" really be called a misuse? What is the world... What is an ego?

Lately, I've noticed misuse of the term "egosearch." More and more young people are calling it "egosearching" to search not for themselves, but for celebrities, stores, games, basically anything.
This gave me pause. Should I be questioning my assumption that only your own self can be called your "ego"? Just what is an ego?

Those people there... I bet they neglected to equip their bug net before shaking a tree. You can see it in their faces.

I think what's even more lonely than not being able to meet someone you like is them not even thinking about wanting to meet you, so maybe it's something like that, but maybe I'm wrong. I'm not sure what's important. [In reference to the song's title, which is "It's Important."]

It's not you not being here that's lonely,
It's thinking about you not being here that's lonely

I've thought about those lyrics for over 20 years and I still don't feel like I understand.

I suspect there's always a number of people who try psychological tests with the feeling of "Something this simple can't really make someone understand their own feelings, so I'll try this out to prove it."

Here's a psychological test.

Picture me in your mind.
Did you picture it?

I'm glad.

Here's a psychological test.

Picture this in your mind. There's 100,000 yen in front of you. Imagine what you'd like to buy with that 100,000 yen.

Did you picture it?

That's the thing you want to buy with 100,000 yen right now.

What did you think?

What exactly is the good part about me? Maybe the bassline...???

If I had 20,000 yen, I could eat 2,000 Umaibos.

I want 20,000 yen a day for food.

People seem to be creatures who get jealous of people who have what they don't. Apparently there are people who are jealous of me too, but I can't really understand why. Maybe it's because we tend to ignore whatever things we just naturally have. Maybe I should look more at the things I have.

I paint the worlds I want to go to...

I wanna go to the world of Cat and Balloons... It's always spring, and there's no coronavirus. No pollen either, I'm sure.

The NicoNico official account promoted me... Real grateful, real grateful... :folded hands:

RT @nico_nico_info :piano: Vocaloid x Cute x Jazz: An equation with a powerful result! :cat: :balloon:

Sometimes a song doesn't stick for me even though it has complex progressions, and there are also songs I love with very simple progressions, so I don't know anything about music...

I have songs with sexy progressions, but to me, both sexiness and cuteness are important, so this is a sexy and cute progression.

This progression has a special power.

I've finished a song.

This #9 is such a mystery... It feels like it's riding on top based on the melody.

GM7→CM7→
Am9→CM7/D→Am/C→
Bm7→B♭9(#11,13)omit3,5→B♭9omit3→
Am9→A♭M7(#9)→A♭M7→
Isn't this sexy????? #Dominowns

I want to be stanned while I'm still alive.

Even OSTER will die someday. (spoilers)

I wonder if there'll come a day when railroad crossings and telephone poles go away?

Maybe people won't think of the word "dial" either, once it's no longer a thing you turn. Our common sense is only common sense for the present moment.

Lyrics that use "cathode-ray tube" will probably stop being understood before long... Bet people'll assume they're for science experiments. :test tube:

I'm stylish, so I'm wearing mi-mollet panties, and a mi-mollet jacket, and a mi-mollet hat, and eating mi-mollet cream pasta.

Wealth, fame, power.
Gold Roger, the king of the pirates, obtained this and everything else the world had to offer.
And his dying words drove countless souls to the seas.

"Told with a playful bite, an "I love you" that can't be voiced"

These words lured men to the Grand Line, pursuing dreams greater than they ever dared to imagine.
This is the time known as the Great Pirate Era!

Believe it or not, Rabbit Fur has some intense chord changing, so it was exhausting making the sheet music.

I was like "Hey, I wonder if Rabbit Fur is on any chord sites?", so I searched and got these results.

I really like the word bublegum [sic], so if I put it in a song title at some point, please think "Ah, she put it in there..."

I found out from a YouTube comment that the English title of "K.K. Idol" is Bublegum K.K. [sic], that's super cute... Is that genius or what...

Meanwhile, if you can't find similar meaning in something everyone else thinks is meaningful, you don't need to blame yourself at all. You might feel ashamed, but every single person's free to feel how they want.

Even if it doesn't have meaning to someone else, if it does to you, then it has meaning, and nobody should take that from you.

Meaning is always decided subjectively, so if you think something has meaning, it does, and if you don't, it doesn't, and that's all it is. Things like the meaning of life and of being born - it's good to decide those for yourself.

I streamed around 5 hours in total, so I'm super tired.

Thank you for coming to the Bubblegum K.K. all-out arrangement stream!   I think I'll make that the last stream I do for this song. I'll upload a video when it's done, so look forward to it!

Cubase just crashed.

I'm making it!!!!!!!
[All-Out Bubblegum K.K. Arrangement] Just OSTER Making A Song #14

If I don't stream, my YouTube's lungs will rot away and die in 5 minutes.

Stream... Gotta stream.

Aiming for 30,000 subscribers on my YouTube channel!

I got a recipe for a street piano, but I don't have an upright piano, so now I'm a Takemoto Piano. [Reference to a commercial]

I'm thinking about all sorts of things to always be making music, so I hope you'll support me...

Finance me 500 million yen already!

Gotta survive until the day I can put out the CD... It's rough... But it's rough for everybody, so let's do our best...

I don't know what I'll do, but I'll at least make the songs for it...

Comiket's cancelled... No helping that...
What'll become of OSTER-san's CD Vol. 3?

Since I started making an all-out arrangement of Bubblegum K.K., I have to keep going all-out until the end, which is starting to get harder.

You should compose in a well-cooled room.

My room's so hot, my head boiled over...

You always start out with imitation. The combination of what you choose to imitate forms originality. Nobody can make something from nothing.

Occasionaly I see the remark "It's the kind of song I feel like I've heard somewhere," but frankly, I'd like you to play me a song totally unlike anything I've heard before. Roots exist any in artistic medium, the only difference is whether you know them or not. There's more to the world than just the things you know.

I had a dream where I talked with someone I don't know about sampling synths...

July 11th, 2020

[After another Bubblegum K.K. stream] I only just realized the existence of Bubblegum K.K.'s bridge from the comments...

[Sora: "Flaming is scary, ya... The internet is terrifying..."]
It do be like that.

Time isn't something you have or don't have, it something's you make...

[C.J.: "You've hooked a Fishing Tourney net total of over 300 points! You're a castin' LEGEND!"]
Good work.

I now understand the Fishing Tourney completely.

Looks like it won't break, yeah... [More accurately, fishing rods only ever break after catching something, and are kept from breaking during the time limit. But if you catch something right after time runs out, that often results in an "overdue" breaking.]

In the Fishing Tourney, if you switch from your rod to a different tool before time's up, does your rod not break...?

Wrong: Fishing Tourney
Correct: Shell-Gathering Tourney

Also, like how artistic professions are subdivided into animators, illustrators, manga artists, etc., a composer can't just make anything, and when I see people who can make things I'm bad at making or flat-out can't make, I respect it and get bummed by it and do my best.

People sometimes say it's amazing how I'm a composer, but you're amazing for living too, and I don't think there's any superiority or inferiority to be found there, so I can't think of myself as amazing at all. Well, hold on, if I think of others as amazing but no one's actually superior, that means I have to be amazing too. Alright then, everyone including myself is amazing.

I'm a composer, so I don't know anything about other occupations. I'm in no position to say this and that about things I don't understand, and all professions deserve respect. Everyone does things that I can't, so everyone's amazing.

Is "touching your sweet neck" perhaps not wholesome??? (asking for a friend)

All I can do is fantasize about studying abroad in Paris reunion room-sharing childhood friend yuri.

I do both lyrics and composition completely by instinct.

I dunno anything about lyrics...

And lyrics demand a completely different kind of skill at accurately expressing feelings with words, so it's even harder.

There are only so many words, so even if you select the closest ones, there's always a margin of error that adds up and results in misunderstandings. It's too hard...

If feelings are continuous analog waveforms, words are discrete digital waveforms. You might sample something very similar, but there's always missing information.

The lyrics to Cat and Balloons came out of an effort to be wholesome, stylish, and cute...

I like the potato salad they sell at supermarkets and convenience stores that are a little sour with smaller potato chunks more than the potato-loaded kind my mother makes... Sorry, mom...

I put the video together based on the illustration that was drawn for me, so I want praise.

Want to keep upping my upload rate.

This video is getting more views on NicoNico than YouTube, so I'm feeling like I really do need to put more effort into having people watch on YouTube.

[Picture of Cat and Balloons in Nico rankings] First place! I'm happy! Thank yooou!

I'm being tested.

A meteor shower happened today, so I'll stream composition tomorrow. :sweat drops:

July 8th, 2020

I'll stream some song-making tomorrow or the day after.

An important announcement about Cat and Balloons: The kitty in the lyrics is the type to chew candy in their mouth. This ends the important announcement.

Let's give myself special permission to do nothing on days I upload a song.

These times after I finish something where it's like I'm out of fuel and can't do anything are such a waste, so I wanna break out of them, but I can't get motivated to do anything...

I wasn't going for that at all, I really didn't know.

C a t A n d B o o b s
[Picture of definitions for the English word "balloon," pointing at the one that says "(American slang) boobs, breasts." "Eh?"]

Imagine your OTPs with my lyrics...

I'm quick to have Lesbian Song fantasies, but when I make everything this sickeningly sweet, my biased CPU unfortunately can't allocate any memory for a man to go in there...

Cat and Balloons sounds like a yuri song about girls who were friends as kids but separated when they changed schools having a chance reunion when studying abroad in Paris, and while buying each other matching necklaces and hitting it off and sharing a fancy but cramped apartment room, they catch glimpses of each other's fragility, and a feeling of "I want to protect her" begins to bud (character limit)

I have something to report to you all.
It's a personal matter, but I have uploaded a new song, so please listen to it.
I'll continue to cooperate with Bassline and Chord Progression in walking the path of a pervert, so please give your regards.

30 minutes until my new song.

I'm testing out Twitter's scheduled post function, but how am I supposed to check if it's actually scheduled...

While I listen to music that I worked really hard to make sound like it's live, I keep thinking "I wonder what this'd be like if it were played live"...

It appears 6 PM is most convenient for everyone, so I'll release it at 6 PM.

6 PM made a combeack...

Seems like there might a lot for 8 PM?

There's some real competition happening in this poll.

I think I'll use this poll to decide.

What time will my new song go up?
- 6:00 PM
- 7:00 PM
- 8:00 PM
- 9:00 PM

In the first place, "better" or "worse" with regards to anything is a question of personal tastes. Maybe all that exists in this world are likes and dislikes?

The more ketchup you put on omelette rice, the tastier it is.

Is a joke that needs explanation second-rate or not...?

It's the same as "the more red pepper you put in curry, the tastier it is."

[Re: "complex chord progressions" tweet] It seems some people are taking this tweet as a serious opinion, but I hope you read it with the nuance of "the more energy drinks you drink, the healthier it is."

This is sudden, but today, believe it or not, I'm uploading a new song!!!!!!!

July 7th, 2020

Music? She's in my bed right now, buddy.

People who call urrequited love fun must be so strong-minded, I don't get it at all... I wanna be loved by music more.

Maybe "liking" to me is a feeling of suffering. Because of how much I like it, I get more and more detail-oriented, and chase my ideal, and suffer. Liking something is a fun and painful cruelty.

The fact I can make music makes me suffer, and it saves me.

I'm saved by the fact I can make music, too.

As long as people tell me my music saved them, I want to do the best I can.

If your life is exhausted, doesn't that mean you can't make music?

Even if my life is exhausted, I shall make music.

It's often thought in composition that the more complex chord progressions you use, the better, but the more complex chord progressions you use, the better.

If I win 500 million yen in the lottery, I'll do OSTER "BIG BAND" project 2.

I'll need to do music for another 5000 years.

So cool... I want to be Yoko Kanno-san... At least 0.00001 of a Yoko Kanno-san...

You're also free to repeat that 5-minute song 5 billion times if you want.

Spending however many dozens of hours making a song, making a video, only for it to be listened to for 5 minutes. Maybe 1 minute, if they stop partway through. But I give it all for that moment.

Even though it'll get messy again someday, we clean. Even though we'll get hungry again someday, we eat. Even though we'll die someday, we live to the fullest. Just to make moments that shine, we live.

I want composing talent. (because I want composing talent)

RT @MONACA_kosaki Man, I want composing talent... Should I write that on a tansaku?

No one can beat me in lack of self-confidence!!

I'm confident in the fact I'm not living a life so stellar that I can deny someone else's personality or way of life. It's good to have confidence in yourself.

People who fail to recognize that they don't know anything about individual people's circumstances, and say things like "___ people have serious issues" to categorize and deny entire groups, have serious issues. (recursive function)

That spread more than I expected, which is cheering me up... Real grateful.

Vocaloid... Vocaloid?! You know Vocaloid?! Isn't Vocaloid great?! I love stuff like, you know, like OSTER project, her Miracle Paint and Love Ward are so nostalgic, huh! Eh... you don't know her?? Oh, well, sure...! She's so obscure, after all! Aha! Ahahahahaha!!

A good friend of mine went overseas once, and I gave them a stuffed dog as a gift saying to think of it as me. (extremely overbearing woman) They named it Calvados, which made me happy. It's not that kind of song, but Calvados Queen :apple:

If I'm going to be eaten, I won't let anyone touch me again.

This OSTER lady makes all kinds of genres, it's amazing.

Sometimes I see tweets like "I'm sad I don't know many people who've heard of OSTER-san." Well, I'm the one who's sad.

My first quiche tasted like haniwa.

In the future, should I transition to lyrics like "Never mind social distancing, I want to touch with you until morning"...?? (new lyrical ritual)

I hope we don't end up in a world where the lyric "I want to touch with you until morning" comes to invite joking comments of "No, practice social distancing!"

I left my pure feelings in my mother's tummy.

Her feelings become a mess without her even realizing, and the final words she's able to wring out are "What should I do?", you see? It's that kind of song. Will you listen, everyone?

Love Ward Miku-chan strikes me as someone who'd never carry around a reusable bag and pay the plastic bag fee every time. Crude and blunt. Wouldn't you like to see a girl like that get toyed with by love? Alright then, dig in.

Perhaps both words and music are raw.

The worse the effects of coronavirus, the more I feel the changing of times, so I think about it more than ever. Yesterday's common sense might be nonsense tomorrow. I have to always be updating my common sense so I can make things that resound in people's hearts.

It's old-timer melancholy hours.

The reason you can instantly understand "ah, she went to the store late at night to buy something that might help with a cold" is because of the common image of a plastic shopping bag. When that underlying common sense changes, the nuance of the lyrics changes with the times.

It's sad thinking that what the Love Ward lyric about "I'm going to see him with a shopping bag in hand" means will probably become less understandable over time. Common sense is always on the move.

The chord progression in AI Want Your Love! Kiritan feels like a banquet an idiot came up with.

So even if you tell me "Wouldn't it be more nutritionally balanced if you added some vegetables?", I'll be like "Sorry, find somewhere else that serves salad." I hope all the high-calorie-heads come to my place.

I feel like my songs are like combining curry with fried food and mayonnaise and cheese and other high-calorie foods and baking in the oven, then being like "I've come up with the ultimate meal!!!!" With that focus on thickness over eloquence, I suppose that's why not many chords without 7s show up.

But your replies about the nuanced differences between 9 and add9 are in fact helpful and I'm glad for them, so thank you. :folded hands:

In other words, I'm a little girl.

I'm an annoying woman, so whenever I say "Why does this have such a pretty sound?", I'm the same as an excited little girl going "I wonder why rainbows look so pretty!", and most often not looking for a tangible explanation.

At the time, I always thought "The notes CDE are just all in a row, so why does playing them at the same time have such a pretty sound?" But now that I consider it, why DOES playing them at the same time have such a pretty sound????

When I hear "add9," I think of the accompaniment in the chorus song "tomorrow," but that's also the kind of add9 that's aiming for a refreshing sound.

I don't find many add9s when I analyze my own songs, it's usually just "also contains a 7," so how am I supposed to use add9? Does having the 7 make for a richer sound in comparison? I associate add9 with accompaniment in chorus songs.

I always write chords containing a 7 as C9, but I'm worrying over whether it's more kind to write C7(9).

Though it's been 20 years since I started making music, I'm turning 18 this year.

Naturally you'd think making songs for 20 years, you'd get tired of it, yet I constantly hear the calling of "As usual, I wanna make something...", and working on songs can make me feel super good like it did yesterday, so music's amazing.

I aim to attempt a variety of genres, and I'm quick to be like "I've made a song like this before, guess I'm a boring one-note person after all, I'm gonna go die," so I need to keep adding to my repertoire or I'll die.

When you make an innumerable amount of songs, it's incredibly common to find you can only come up with similar ideas. But even if it's similar, you can make something properly different if you've leveled up in every way since then. That's why I have to always be leveling up, so I can make something different even I'm when doing something similar.

It's been about 20 years since I started making music, and those 20 years have been a history of battling against "I've done that before... (so it's boring)"

To prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus, please lend your assistance with the destruction of mankind. (Tokyo Metropolitan Government Office enveloped in red light)

I'm lousy at Japanese.

The more you dig into things you dislike and bad feelings, the more they come out without end, so there's really no need to dig them up and bring your own ruin. Yet sometimes you brood about stuff, so you need something else in your life to fill your head with, which is what I play games and watch anime for.

People who live happily are people good at turning their back to unhappiness.

Being able to cram in a whole bunch of condensed coolness in the form of phrases that sound totally natural but would be pretty tricky to actually play is what's interesting about making live-style songs digitally, I think... Though of course, I take a different approach if I know it's going to be played live.

As far as art, I think the opinion "if you're going to paint that realistically, just take a photo" is nonsense, because on a canvas, you can paint sensuous meaning that defies physical laws and can't be included in a photo. But yeah, I have a similar sort of feeling about digital music.

When I see art that looks like it's a photograph, I'm like "Amazing!!", but it's hard to get someone to shout "Amazing!!" about digitally composing something that sounds like a live performance. I wonder if that's because of the fanatical nature of composition...

Machines are programmed lifeforms.

Humans are living machines.

I am a machine that makes music.

That said, saying "I hope your happiness lasts" sounds sarcastic too. Putting what you're thinking into words is more difficult than you'd think.

Isn't telling people who got married "be happy" sort of saying they're not happy now??

The thing that goes on the end isn't "chou." :butterfly:

[Spoilers for solution and original Japanese: Add a "lo" sound to the end. The Japanese version adds "hou" to the end.
Nishin (herring) = nishinhou (binary number system). Sawara (type of mackerel) + hou isn't anything.

Saikou (highest) = saikouhou (highest peak). Shikou (supreme) + hou isn't anything.
Chou (butterfly) = chouhou (priceless treasure). Hachi (bee) + hou isn't anything.
A (the first half of Aum/Om) = ahou (idiot). Un (the second half of Aum/Om) + hou isn't anything.
Kanon (canon/cannon) = kanonhou (canon law OR cannon artillery). Rondo (rondo) + hou isn't anything.

It's interesting seeing so many examples come up that didn't occur to me no matter how much I racked my brain.

I made a serious has-it/doesn't-have-it riddle. [A kind of riddle where the "has it" column has a certain quality that the "doesn't" column does not.] If you get it, reply with some other examples. :kissy face:

Dorothy has it, the Wizard doesn't
Tokyo has it, New York doesn't
Certain has it, absolute doesn't
Clinging has it, hanging doesn't]
[Spoilers for the solution and the original Japanese words: Read the syllables backwards, looking at the pronunciation moreso than the spelling. The Japanese version rearranged syllables freely, but also followed a theme.
Mago (grandchild) = goma (sesame seeds). Ko (child) doesn't rearrange into a food.
Gorin (Olympics) = ringo (apple). W-hai (World Cup) doesn't rearrange into a food.
Suna (sand) = nasu (eggplant). Tsuchi (earth) doesn't rearrange into a food.
Sashiba (false tooth) = basashi (horsemeat). Ireba (dentures) doesn't rearrange into a food.
Rubii (ruby) = biiru (beer). Safaia (sapphire) doesn't rearrange into a food.
Raiku (like) = ikura (salmon roe). Rabu (love) doesn't rearrange into a food.
