I'm lousy at Japanese.

The more you dig into things you dislike and bad feelings, the more they come out without end, so there's really no need to dig them up and bring your own ruin. Yet sometimes you brood about stuff, so you need something else in your life to fill your head with, which is what I play games and watch anime for.

People who live happily are people good at turning their back to unhappiness.

Being able to cram in a whole bunch of condensed coolness in the form of phrases that sound totally natural but would be pretty tricky to actually play is what's interesting about making live-style songs digitally, I think... Though of course, I take a different approach if I know it's going to be played live.

As far as art, I think the opinion "if you're going to paint that realistically, just take a photo" is nonsense, because on a canvas, you can paint sensuous meaning that defies physical laws and can't be included in a photo. But yeah, I have a similar sort of feeling about digital music.

When I see art that looks like it's a photograph, I'm like "Amazing!!", but it's hard to get someone to shout "Amazing!!" about digitally composing something that sounds like a live performance. I wonder if that's because of the fanatical nature of composition...

Machines are programmed lifeforms.

Humans are living machines.

I am a machine that makes music.

That said, saying "I hope your happiness lasts" sounds sarcastic too. Putting what you're thinking into words is more difficult than you'd think.

Isn't telling people who got married "be happy" sort of saying they're not happy now??

The thing that goes on the end isn't "chou." :butterfly:

My goal for the future is also to become a tyrannosaurus.

RT @YahooNewsTopics 6-Year Old Discovers Mistake in Dinosaur Encyclopedia
First-grader Jun Ikemiyagi-san (6) from Ginowan, who has loved dinosaurs since age 3 and states "my goal for the future is to become a tyrannosaurus," discovered a mistake in a dinosaur encyclopedia. Publisher Gakken Plus has taken notice and plans to fix it in future printings.

It seems like everyone's figured out yesterday's, so it's bustling [with replies of other examples].

Today's.
[Wall has it, floor doesn't
Bee has it, wasp doesn't
Module has it, piece doesn't
Bell has it, chime doesn't
Sow has it, plant doesn't
Pummel has it, beating doesn't]
[Spoilers for solution and original Japanese: Add a "lo" sound to the end. The Japanese version adds "hou" to the end.
Nishin (herring) = nishinhou (binary number system). Sawara (type of mackerel) + hou isn't anything.
Kinou (yesterday) = kinouhou (induction). Ashita (tomorrow) + hou isn't anything.
Saikou (highest) = saikouhou (highest peak). Shikou (supreme) + hou isn't anything.
Chou (butterfly) = chouhou (priceless treasure). Hachi (bee) + hou isn't anything.
A (the first half of Aum/Om) = ahou (idiot). Un (the second half of Aum/Om) + hou isn't anything.
Kanon (canon/cannon) = kanonhou (canon law OR cannon artillery). Rondo (rondo) + hou isn't anything.

My first kiss tasted like tempura.

Unbelievably, someone got it right, so I'll reveal the answer: it's synths that have articulation switching due to key switches and synths that don't.

Maybe it's iffy whether MODO Bass has it, but it does.

This is so otaku-oriented, no one's going to get this.
[Trilian has it, Keyscape doesn't
Spitfire Chamber Strings has it, Omnisphere 2 doesn't
MODO Bass has it, Massive doesn't
Broadway Big Band has it, Nexus2 doesn't
Prominy SC Electric Guitar has it, BFD 3 doesn't
Prominy Hummingbird has it, Stylus RMX doesn't]

When did I become a riddle bot?

The exact same approach.
[Since I can't think of more English ones for this, I'll just list the Japanese ones, which follow a similar pattern to the first.
Oiran (courtesan) = raion (lion). Maiko (dancing girl) doesn't rearrange into an animal.
Maku (membrane) = kuma (bear). Suji (muscle) doesn't rearrange into an animal.
Daraku (depravity) = rakuda (camel). Kinben (diligence) doesn't rearrange into an animal.
Karui (light) = iruka (dolphin). Omoi (heavy) doesn't rearrange into an animal.
Koin (coin) = inko (parakeet). Shihei (paper money) doesn't rearrange into an animal.
Baabii (Barbie) = biibaa (beaver). Rika-chan (Licca-chan, a similar kind of doll) doesn't rearrange into an animal.

[She posted another one using emoji which I'm not sure I get, and that might not be translatable anyway.]

It's interesting seeing so many examples come up that didn't occur to me no matter how much I racked my brain.

I made a serious has-it/doesn't-have-it riddle. [A kind of riddle where the "has it" column has a certain quality that the "doesn't" column does not.] If you get it, reply with some other examples. :kissy face:
[Intake has it, exhaust doesn't
Surely has it, definitely doesn't
Dorothy has it, the Wizard doesn't
Tokyo has it, New York doesn't
Certain has it, absolute doesn't
Clinging has it, hanging doesn't]
[Spoilers for the solution and the original Japanese words: Read the syllables backwards, looking at the pronunciation moreso than the spelling. The Japanese version rearranged syllables freely, but also followed a theme.
Mago (grandchild) = goma (sesame seeds). Ko (child) doesn't rearrange into a food.
Gorin (Olympics) = ringo (apple). W-hai (World Cup) doesn't rearrange into a food.
Suna (sand) = nasu (eggplant). Tsuchi (earth) doesn't rearrange into a food.
Sashiba (false tooth) = basashi (horsemeat). Ireba (dentures) doesn't rearrange into a food.
Rubii (ruby) = biiru (beer). Safaia (sapphire) doesn't rearrange into a food.
Raiku (like) = ikura (salmon roe). Rabu (love) doesn't rearrange into a food.

Don't know much about mountain goddeses, but I slept with all of them.

I saw a tweet about how gods of mountains are goddesses, so they like hot guys and don't want women to come, but what're you just assuming the mountain goddesses are straight for?

It's Yuri Day? You should've told me sooner.

It takes from my lifespan every time I make a wild song, so it might be starting to become dangerous.

I only make wild songs.

I just made a wild song...

More than they realize, people tend to decide things based on their past experience, and you can generally consider said experience to be pretty biased. I need to understand that I'm a weirdo.

To be serious, there are so many things you need to experience yourself to get why someone would be suffering from it, so you absolutely can't just casually deny someone's feelings and pain. It's way too impertinent to act like you can look at all things like a god and properly judge them.

I'm troubled by how I'm not getting 5 billion yen in my bank account.

I super don't like the phrase "trivial worry." 'Cause only that person understands their own suffering, right?! It's one of those things you should only say to yourself and never to somebody else!

I thought "channel strip" was referring to something sexier.

If I can make it through the month, I'll stream making a Bubblegum K.K. arrangement...

It's the same for art, and manga, and movies... They're the crystallized effort of people who have endured all sorts of hassle. That's why creations are to be revered.

The music everyone can just listen to casually took a ton of troublesome doing this and that and whatsit to make, y'hear.

I mean, having the minimum knowledge to produce sound with a DAW, thinking up a melody, considering chords, coming up with phrases for each part, understanding how to use each of your synths, writing lyrics, doing mixing and mastering, and having to make stuff like lyrics sheets and strings-horn sheets and chord sheets is just such a high bar, y'know??????

Making songs with your ears alone is seriously tiring, so people who want to make complex songs should really study composition theory.

Composition is so nonsensical, I'm gonna snap.

[Toro: "When you're deep kissing in your room, you have to keep quiet so your neighbor doesn't kabedon you, meow."]
Accurate information.

Having to do both is one of the hard parts of being a composer-arranger...

Retakes when making a super-difficult rhythm game song: "Please add more notes."
Retakes when arranging: "Please have less notes."

If it's for me to wear, I prefer a swimsuit that hides my body lines, and if it's to put on someone else, I prefer a swimsuit that doesn't hide their body lines. Thanks in advance.

During an interview back when I made Summer Idol, I remember being asked "OSTER-san, what kind of swimsuit do you like?", and I wasn't sure if they were referring to what I'd want to wear or what I'd want to have Miku-chan and company wear, and it made me super nervous.

My name came up in this survey because it got a lot of votes, so just the fact my song is part of a lineup of many famous songs is a victory for me, and I have no regrets...

Take this survey, please! (not saying to vote for Summer Idol for questio

Everyone is a born genius, so it's good to live saying you're glad you were born a genius.

Glad I was born as a genius...

Made a genius song.

RT @art_vie_keisuke I believe dimM7 = mM7(-5)!
m, dim, and aug depend on the root note letter (i.e. C), while M depends on the 7. But since dim is already a tetrad that contains A, it ended up getting mixed up with (-5), so writing it as "dim7" originated as a way to distinguish them. :light bulb:

Music's really hard since just changing notes by a half-tone super changes their sound and function, I can't make music.

When it comes to dims, 7 becomes A. Let's try understanding it that way. But then when you write dimM7, what happens with the composite notes????

C Eb Gb B → CmM7-5?????

That last one's wrong, huh...

C Eb Gb A → Cdim7 (C diminished seventh)
C Eb Gb Bb → Cm7-5 (C half-diminished)
C Eb Gb B → CmM7 (C minor major seventh)

I don't get theory at all, and even when it's explained to me, I'm a dummy and usually don't get it.

RT @zussie_piano The thing I absolutely can't comprehend about chord naming. [Video about how the difference between C/C7 or Cm/Cm7 is adding Bb, yet when it comes to Cdim, Cdim7 adds A. And if you add Bb to Cdim, that's called Cm7b5.]
I've said this 5 billion times.

Does anyone understand the feeling of being afraid of being left behind by society, yet more afraid of making contact with society?

I want to stream composition again, but it's hard to get to work on a hobby song.

[Jun: "Let's turn out the lights, OSTER, Jun will party animal your fatigue away, hop!"]
What a flatterer.

[Jun: "Noblesse oblige, while I was harvesting fruit, I kinda got a craving for nude women, hop..."]
Such a vivid imagination.

Their home was destroyed by Frieza, though. [Excerpt from the lyrics: "Si, we were always two who were one, always unbeatable back home"]

I imagined Kami and Piccolo doing a Seishun Amigo duet and was cheered up.

I feel like somebody getting turned into a woman makes them cute, yet getting turned into a man doesn't necessarily mean they'll be attractive... Is that just how my brain's built to blame...?

June 19th, 2020

I've never even entertained the notion of being accepted by everyone anyway, so I'm like "let 'em be free."

When they're output in the form of words and actions, there's responsibility to be taken, but shouldn't thoughts themselves be free...?

And when I see people furious that someone has such and such thoughts on something, I feel like that judgement of thoughts themselves is persecution based in biases. Not being pleased when people don't have the thoughts you want them to is a super scary way of thinking.

I think everyone has biases, so I'm biased to think that people who say they have no biases just don't notice their own bias.

I am invincible.

I'm very happy to have a bunch of situations lately where I'm someone's mother.

I'm AAAA's mother.

You'll inevitably get judged and ranked by others as long as you live, but that's nothing more than their opinions, and life's easier if you assume "absolute value" is a made-up fantasy. One man's trash is another man's treasure.

What's important in both creation and in life isn't having pride in being better than others, nor feeling inferior to others, but drawing a line of "other people are other people, I'm me," is what I think.

As such, I might occasionally want to see a love between two people who aren't lesbians. Even Rin-chan in Friendship isn't a lesbian (probably).

In theory, it's fine that people would all have their own reasons for falling in love, but maybe I expect a definite reason because in my mind, I've established it as the epitome of storytelling... But it's super tough to create that kind of drama in a song...

When I see a man and a woman in a movie or something just sorta become an item by being together, I'm like "And why did that happen?!", so I'm gradually forgetting my basic instincts as a living being... Yes, I am a new species... Scientific name: Otaku Unpleasablus...

Be it gay, lesbian, or straight, what's important to me isn't so much their genders, but in what way they need each other. Ideally, the feminine or masculine qualities involved therein are just a nice seasoning on top... Just talking about my personal tastes...

And an obligatory please listen to this.

I may on occasion like choosing titles based on time signature. (Kyuubiko Yagyou [Nine-Tailed Fox's Night Trip])

I remember at the time, I chose the title Rainbow Panda because it was 7/8 and I was like "what would happen if I mixed seven genres?", but now I'm like, seven genres? What? No idea what I actually mixed anymore, either.

It's the original audio, of course.

I want to keep this level of sickness.

Relistening to my ACNH arrangement, man, it's sick.

I'm not trying to be weird for attention, I just like these progressions.

Thanks for listening so much.

I live in fear of theorists getting mad at me for saying that sort of thing.

An arrangement with this sort of progression runs up against the melody super hard, but if the progression is persuasive enough to push through, it feels like it sounds about right, so like, dissonance?! This is an lesson in how if you start dissing people for being mistaken about which one was the original, it becomes embarrassing when you make that same mistake, so it's better to be tolerant.

My theory is that people who go off on others like "Natsumatsuri isn't by Whiteberry, it's a Jitterin' Jinn song!" think La Campanella is a Liszt song.
