I really love going up against a monster for the first time with no prior info, wondering what kind of monster it'll be, and preparing all sorts of items, but in online multiplayer, even just having useless skills will make some people go "are they even trying?", so that kinda puts me off it...
It's not like you can even see people's faces online, so no matter what people think of you it'll probably have no impact on your future life, but I'm so scared of being bad or unfamiliar and people thinking "what's with this scrub?" that I can only ever play solo...
